As part of medical practice, pathology deals with the study and diagnosis of structural and functional changes in cells, tissues and organs affected by certain types of disease. In addition, pathologists are often involved in dealing with certain situations in criminal and civil proceedings in courts. The most common situations studied by pathologists and forensic pathologists are injuries and sudden deaths.
